Bimetallic ribbed tubes with a supporting copper tube are used if it is necessary to protect only the tube space from aggressive media (e. g. salt sea water), while maintaining the high thermal conductivity.
The use of monometallic copper ribbed tubes in this case is not economically feasible due to the high cost, and a stainless steel supporting pipe will reduce the heat transfer capacity of the heat exchanger element.
